Accessibility statement
This statement covers schoolproof.co.uk, the signed-in school portal, the visitor and staff sign-in pages, and the PDFs the service produces. It is written for the people who use the service and for the public bodies that buy it.
Our commitment
Schools and councils are public sector bodies with duties under the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) Accessibility Regulations 2018, and the office staff who use SchoolProof most are the ones who need it on the day it matters. We build to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA and treat it as part of "done" for every page, PDF and email, not a sweep at the end.
What that means in practice
You can use the whole service with a keyboard alone, and the control that has focus is always visibly marked. Every form field has a label that assistive technology announces. Nothing relies on colour alone: every red, amber or green state also carries a word, a tick or a number. Text keeps a contrast of at least 4.5:1 against its background, and the layout survives 200% zoom and a 320px wide screen without loss. Buttons on the office tablet and on phones are at least 44 pixels square. Animation respects your system's reduced-motion setting. Status messages that change without a page load are announced. A "skip to main content" link is the first thing a keyboard reaches on every page. The PDFs we generate (reports, procedure drafts, the staff card, the incident response pack) are real text with headings in order, readable in greyscale, not pictures of text.
What we know is not right yet
We would rather tell you than have you find out. As of October 2026 the PDFs we generate are real text with headings in reading order, but they are not yet "tagged" PDFs (PDF/UA), because the library we use to make them cannot produce tags. Screen readers can read them, but navigation by heading and table inside the PDF is weaker than on the equivalent web page, and the drill observer sheet in particular is a landscape tick grid designed for a clipboard. Everything in every PDF is also available as text in the portal. We will move to tagged PDFs as soon as the tooling allows, and will update this page when we do.
Testing
We test with keyboard-only navigation, with browser zoom at 200% and 400%, with Windows Narrator and NVDA, and with VoiceOver on iPad, which is the tablet most school offices use. We check contrast with the WebAIM contrast checker as part of adding any new colour.
Tell us about a problem
If anything in SchoolProof is hard to use, or you need information in a different format, email hello@schoolproof.co.uk and a real person will reply within two working days. Tell us the page and what happened; we fix accessibility bugs ahead of other work.
Enforcement
If you are not happy with how we respond, the Equality and Human Rights Commission enforces the accessibility regulations in Great Britain. You can contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS) at equalityadvisoryservice.com.
